FINALLY... my first theater show in over a year!! Here are some highlights from my recent trip to Arkansas with the fellas in Shawn Gerhard's Ultimate Garth Brooks Experience.
Because it was the first show in over a year for this band, I brought a 22/10/12/14/16 configuration with a split rack to fill up the drum riser... big show = big kit! One of the organizers came up to me during set-up and asked if I could play softly because the venue recently had a run of drummers who (in her words) "had to be themselves and play how they felt inside" which meant really loud. I assured her that I would use a lighter stick and would hold back because by gosh I'm a proooo-fessional.😁😁 So I tuned the drums down and you'll notice that I'm almost pushing the crashes instead of swooping at them but it worked and everyone was happy.
Hats off to the core of the band for always making it fun: Sean Harrison (bass), Joseph Shackelford (violin), Billy Welch (keys), Joe Cook (guitar), & Rich Eckhardt (guitar) and with special guests steel guitarist Kevin Post & sound guy Chris Boyd on this 2-day Thursday/Friday run.
Now... Sean, Billy, and myself had to leave early Saturday morning because we were part of the house band for a showcase being filmed as a pitch to Netflix.
The showcase went well and I headed home as fast as possible to hug on the family... after a much needed shower of course.😁
