Umphrey's McGee @ The Ryman
Kris, Andy, and the rest of UM musically destroyed the Ryman while their fans took care of the rest! I've been to a lot of shows at this venue and have never seen a crowd take control. UM didn't reach the 2nd chorus of the first song before the aroma of pot mixed with the already present scent of patchouli. The first level quickly turned into General Admission and walking on the 'sacred pews' was the popular mode of transportation. The (usually retirement age) ushers thankfully faded into the background without trying to enforce the usual rules.
With all this being said and aside from a few bad eggs, the crowd was very friendly and completely engaged in the music... a definite not-to-miss-band!
Can't believe I'm writing about passing of another musician friend. Marvin was one of the most underrated drummers on the scene. Those in the gospel world had known about him for years but his influence spread way beyond that.
