Robert Searight of Snarky Puppy just punched tradition in the neck with his new configuration... pretty awesome!
I watched the bio pic on controversial filmmaker John Milius last night and it opened with a quote from Theodore Roosevelt. Who knew Roosevelt gave the perfect response to the eternal comment of "Ringo sucks" statement. (You can substitute Ringo's name with anyone you have an issue with...)
In other words, be constructive in your criticism and if you can do better... than do it.
I just discovered a series of videos by the artist, Sun Rai, performing with Matt Chamberlain and Victor Indrizzo for his CD, Live at Studio Delux.
Both drummers are masters of texture and it's a thrill to see them in the moment of creating each rhythm bed for the songs.
This is the kind of drumming I want to do when I grow up.

Let me introduce a project that has been floating in the ether for some time and has finally touched the ground.
DRUMMERS LIVE! brings the drum shop conversation straight to you. Whenever drummers get together, the conversation can cover equipment, favorite drummers, gig advice, new music, and everything in between.
The idea for the show came from my need for a drum related podcast that covered that all of the topics that I wanted to hear... well, there's only one way to actually do that.
The concept went through many variations before and after the first episode was recorded. I have no doubt that it'll mutate into something else but for now it's manageable and really gratifying.
In working within the drum industry for almost two decades, I've met a ton of drummers (pros, semi-pros, & everyday Joes) and each had a great story. DRUMMERS LIVE! is me selfishly saying, "I think this drummer is interesting and you should know about them too."
