Just Summer NAMM'd it up at the new convention center...
There wasn't much exciting on the drum side but I also go to see outboard gear and friends that I only see at NAMM Shows or drum clinics.
Saw a cool USB mic, new style HEAVY duty studio mike stand, some UK mic pre's, all of the JamBand-type gear, and seeing longtime Roland rep Steve Fisher now working for Yamaha... weird!
Also caught up with Boo McAfee of WFD fame... just a great guy. Forget how you may feel about WFD, just go say hello to Boo a meet a guy who shares your passion for drumming.
I was sad to find out that guitarist Alfons Kettner passed away on June 28th. He was one of the first guys I met and played with once I came off the road. He wrote the Bobby Caldwell hit "What You Won't Do for Love" and I was certainly in awe cause that's a terrific song. He could seem very stern and abrupt but once you played onstage with him (and he liked what he heard), he opened up and was incredibly nice. Playing that song with the guy who wrote it will always be a highlight for me. We lost touch and it's been years since I've seen him but it's easy to remember the guys who were nice than the ones who weren't.
Again, nothing earth shattering on the gear front... just a nice hang with some friends before the Saturday madness starts.
